Hi, I'm Kathy!
Low fire projects, high fire life!
Hey guys! you might know me from my other site, CraftyChica.com, where I cover lifestyle, DIY, entertainment and other glittery topics. What a lot of people don't realize is I have a passion project - ceramics!
I'm talking everything from sticking my hands in clay to cranking out handpainted mugs using premade bisque.
I love it so much I decided to dedicate a separate site to all my projects. Many of these are from my Crafty Chica site, but I'll also post fresh content here. I've learned the average chica doesn't have a kiln in her garage like me. So this will be my cyber studio for all things clay!
WHERE I STAND:
- I've been working with ceramics for about 10 years now.
But I feel I really amped that up in the past five years.
- I started when I worked with Duncan, they manufactured by Crafty Chica product line for Michaels Stores and I had to visit Duncan's Fresno offices every month for eight years. I loved painting the bisque while there. When I quit a couple years ago, I not only continued ceramics but made it part of my design business for Crafty Chica! I still work with Duncan now and then, mostly teaching classes a few times a year at out of-state events.
- I have a Skutt kiln, which I love.
- Cone 04 and 06 are my comfort zones.
- I paint manufactured bisque but - I also create a LOT of hand build clay (red is my fave).
I like to make my own embellishments, jewelry, and home decor items.
- I don't have a wheel or slab roller, but they are on my wish list. I make do, I'm very creative!
- I don't dip. I sponge and brush on my clear glaze.
- I use Duncan color and glazes, only because that is all I've ever known! Someday I'll break out and try other brands!
- I fire about 2-3 times a week.
- Yes, I teach classes now and then.
- My goal is to inspire people to celebrate ceramics arts, no matter the skill level.
